Though I liked this book, I didn't feel this book was very distinct from others of it's genre, and there were many character deaths in which i found myself questioning how the character had been connected with the main character. That said, I did like how the love story played out in the end, though it might have been more seamless.Though I liked this book, I didn't feel this book was very distinct from others of it's genre, and there were many character deaths in which i found myself questioning how the character had been connected with the main character. I did like this book, and it was hard to put down. That said, misunderstandings propelled much of the plot, and the characters didn't feel as human as I would have liked.

Fun and often unexpected. I liked the story and most the characters as well though a few were a little too black-and-white.

Brimming with fantastic information and fascinating ideas that are applicable to everyday life! This book made me reconsider information I take for granted and reevaluate perspective in general.

It was 22 years ago when I first watched that dreadful movie which was based upon this book. For 22 years I've harbored resentment and contempt for the towheaded brat whose transgressions were too easily forgiven as his peers suffered corporeally for their similar infractions. But upon my completion of the book, I have discovered that I was led astray!
Charlie never once succumbed to the temptations that got the better of his peers!
He triumphed over temptation and agonized much over what tragedy might have befallen the others on their journey. And so today, I must apologize: Charlie Bucket, you were indeed the better man, and are truly worthy of the factory and all the chocolate there within! It was 22 years ago when I first watched that dreadful movie which was based upon this book. Better, in many ways, than I remembered, though at times it seemed long and meandering. But the powerful imagery and symbolism prevailed and left me moved and awed.

Overall a really interesting narrative. While I was engaged through and through, the narrator's aloofness prevented me from becoming emotionally connected or impassioned. Throughout the book, much was at stake, I was left feeling as though little actually happened.Overall a really interesting narrative. I loved the monster and his humanity, in some ways he seemed more human than the other characters. The characters were all distinct, and I loved seeing the different views they held of one another. And I was glad to see the ending left open enough from readers to make their own judgments.I loved the monster and his humanity, in some ways he seemed more human than the other characters. Engrossing from the start, though the initial suspense build in Mr. Harker's first chapters is never equaled. Lively characters and eerie events kept me engaged throughout, though I had little visual sense of the setting.

Fun and ever engaging despite lacking depth. The characters were only a smidge superficial, the plot kept me interested until the end, but it lacked strength.

Interesting and exciting despite some bumps (note, having typo in the first sentence is off-putting). I liked the characters, I loved visiting Portland, and the plot was strong enough to keep me interested when the pacing slowed.

Reminiscent of Holly Black's "Valiant." Quirky, unique, and sometimes poetic, but a bit raw and grungy for my taste. After a hard-to-waddle-through intro the book picks up and remains engaging, but the plot turns and the finale, I found a bit hard to swallow.Reminiscent of Holly Black's "Valiant." Thorough and insightful. I appreciated the broader view of what is a very complex issue. While I don't think the book completely exhausts all the challenges, it did a great job of objectively covering many of the struggles we face in modern America.
