A beautiful, compassionate characterization of someone who is deaf. I loved how Jordan captured his frustration and innocence - and the joy of discovering communication.

I started this book late at night, and what a mistake that was! I just couldn't put it down so I sat reading it until the early hours in the morning! I thought the romance was very sweet and the heroine was very strong minded, an extreme contrast to the typical woman in that time. The only problem I really had with the book was that the heroine could be too stubborn at times. She constantly butted heads when it would have been smarter, not to mention safer, if she would back down occasionally and learn to compromise. Especially seeing as how she lived in a very superstitious town during the time of witch hunts.

The greastest book about love between two people and the struggles of religious beliefs and status.

Fantastic book. In the midst of great sorrow, you can find great joy. On a side note: I think it would be really helpful to have a way to communicate with my spouse in front of others, like say car salesmen or children, that only he and I would understand. Just like Raven and Marnie do when they are visiting Pierce at the end of the story. Those are the times when you need to be able to say what you really think but can't because of listening ears.

A charming read and I would recommend for senior high readers. The book cover illustration could be better.
