I found 'Father Christmas' disappointing and vulgar. It's difficult enough keeping our children innocent and allowing them the magical nature of Christmas, we don't need a sour, completely miserable Father Christmas constantly crabbing about his job and clearly enjoying drinking to get himself through it.

While this might make a great 'pink elephant' gift for an adult, it should be kept far, far from little children. In as much the Father Christmas of legend is the traditional English name for the personification of Christmas, I believe that using "Father Christmas" as the title is particularly egregious and misleading. I expected something completely different and much better.

I went back and read it a second time thinking I may have misunderstood grumpy Santa. I didn't.

Bah humbug for this terrible 'Father Christmas' with <1 star and leaving me completely uninterested in seeking out other books by this author, who may be a good illustrator but disappoints with his dour point of view.
