The book's author claims that this is an account of Conrad's life only, not including his literary work. The man's life wasn't all that interesting - he was no R. F. Burton - one's interest in his life is because of his works, especially so in the case of Conrad. Ultimately, though it was thoroughly researched, it was a rather boring book.
