A stunning British thriller by the author of Every Breath You Take. A sweet, elderly lady is viciously killed by her 11-year-old foster child. But the whole matter had been settled two years ago when the child admitted, indeed insisted, that he was guilty. So why reopen the case? That's what P.I. Laura Principal has to find out.

A writer who is somewhat like Ruth Rendell or Frances Fyfield tells us a tightly woven story about an abused child who is charged with the murder of his foster mother. Gradually other figures from the boy’s past emerge to change what has seemed to be an open and shut case.
