I defer to marx_bro's insightful comment. Add this one to the list of Western comedy: "Cat Ballou 1965," "Two Mules for Sister Sara 1970," "CompaƱeros 1970," "Duck, You Sucker 1971," "Three Amigos 1986," ... must be more.

Terrance Hill, like Henry Fonda before him in this film, has aged well to become the bicycle-riding, detective priest in the current TV series, Don Matteo.

Go check out Terrence Hill in Don Matteo.... he just keeps going.

In my opinion, this is among the very best comedy/westerns ever made. Masterful and artistic performances from Fonda and Hill both in the glory years of their careers.

When folks think of "spagetti westerns" they usually thinks of Eastwood, Wallach & Van Cleev. But this fun-filled flick is a great departure from that stereotype. Our heroes, Nobody (Terrance Hill) & Jack (Henry Fonda) depict a changing-of-the guard in old-west bad-assery. What ever happened to good-ol' Terrance anyways?

I was quite interested in checking this one out, being that (I assumed) Sergio Leone was again working with Henry Fonda, as they had done five years earlier in the KILLER Spaghetti Western, "Once Upon a Time in the West", but there is no comparison here. Leone's involvement was only providing an idea for the story -- i.e., he didn't direct. And this one was an absolutely painful, forgettable snooze-fest.

I agree with the first comment. Not Fonda's best but he was so great in so many. I liked the young gunslinger.

Set in the year 1899, this promising, 1973 Comedy (which started out as a darn-good spoof of Spaghetti-Westerns from the 1960s) worked really well until its last 1/2 hour, then its story began to seriously flounder to the point of really pissing me off and so I docked it one star from my rating... This film's story concerns a rather silly relationship of blind adoration between a young, easy-going gunman and his idolized hero, the aging gunslinger named Jack Beauregard who wants nothing more than to retire (with some dignity) from the business.

Some quotes in IMDb including the entire spiel, that was a commentary on life in general but included a big twist, by Fonda at the end. Here is an excerpt from the quote:
It's the moral of these new times of yours: Folks that throw dirt on you aren't always trying to hurt you, and folks who pull you out of a jam aren't always trying to help you. But the main point is, when you're up to your nose in shit, keep your mouth shut.
