Children will enjoy being in on the joke that Jumpy Jack appears oblivious to. The droll, understated humor of the book is served by Sophie Blackall's pictures, which effortlessly tightrope walk between grotesque and cute.

My 3 year old daughter read it more than a dozen times. It was entertaining for me too. Witty.

My son 3 years old asked to read it over and over again. He is a big fun of snails.

Funny because the snail is scared of monsters and doesn't realize that his friend is one, but the ending is abrupt and strange.
