Excellent rhythm so great to read aloud to kids! Beautiful water colour paintings by Jon J. Muth (one of the greatest illustrators of all time). A little bit sad (it made me cry but I'm really sensitive to children's stories) but an overall good message to think about. I'd recommend it for around age 5-8, but depending on the maturity/sensitivity/reading style of the kid. (The writing is simple but the theme seems heavy to me). I highly recommend it, and would like this book to be a permanent part of my bookshelf one day.

We got this book for our two year old. We thought it might be too mature for him but he loved it. The writing is lyrical and he understood the two friends in the book. It also helped him understand the concept of time and seasons. He really liked teh gorgeous pictures in the book and often pointed to them.

City Dog Country Frog is about a city dog that goes to the country for the first time and is allowed to run free. While City dog is running free he sees country frog. Country frog is excited to see city dog and becomes friends with city dog. City dog and country frog meet up in the spring and play country frogs games in the country. In the summer city dog and country frog meet up and play city dogs games. Then when spring comes around city dog and country frog meet up to play and their friendship continuously blossoms. However frog becomes tired and grows old. In the winter when city dog goes looking for county frog country frog was not there. Spring comes around again city dog meets a new friend.
City dog country frog is a good book about friendship and I high recommend it. The book explains the friendship between two friends that come from two different worlds.

Friendship is found, lost, and a new friendship begins. The tale is both sad and heartwarming, and is only made more beautiful because of the watercolours used.

Mo Willems only writes for a change, but leaves the illustration to Jon J Muth. And it is clear why. Willems's illustration style is more comedic. This story, about friendship and death, needs Muth's watercolours.

Bring Kleenex for this one, as you will tear up at the end of the story. Beautiful.

Beautiful story. Poignant, but lovely.

A lovely book about the growth of an unlikely friendship. The illustrations work perfectly alongside the text and actually stand quite well on their own.

Fantastic watercolours illustrate this beautiful story book. The book is broken into seasons so it is slightly let down when it reaches "Fall" instead of Autumn.

“City Dog and Country Frog played until Country Frog was too tired to sniff and fetch and bark anymore. City Dog didn’t stop to eat the snow; he ran straight for County Frogs rock, City Dog looked for County Frog, Country Frog was not there.”
