Young Theo Waitley is a nexus of violence. At pilot school, she excels in hands-on flying, but is behind the curve in both social intricacies and math. After a series of confrontations, fights, and ultimately a riot after which she is thanked for not killing anyone, Theo is facing suspension and must quickly decide if she's ready to return to Delgado in disgrace, or launch herself into the universe as a freelance pilot with little more than a hastily procured guild card, a pistol taken from an attacker, and the contents of her pants pockets.

I am one bus ride away from finishing this book, #2 of the series, and I am not disappointed. Some authors write books the way directors make movies: A very good first one, a lousy sequel, a hurried makeup, another good one, etc. Sharon Lee and Steve Miller make a good team in my opinion, and this book reflects that just as much as the other 2 I've read. PS: Heed my warning in the comment for Ghost Ship and don't read it until you've read what comes before.

I'm done this book and it has not let me down. Going to read "Mouse & Dragon" next.

If you like reading in any order, this series will not let you down. If you want to read in order follow this chronology: Crystal Soldier & Crystal Dragon (together called "Crystal Variation"), Balance of Trade, Trade Secret, Local Custom, Scout’s Progress, Mouse and Dragon, Conflict of Honors, Agent of Change, Carpe Diem, Plan B, Fledgling, I Dare, Saltation, Ghost Ship, Necessity’s Child, Dragon Ship
