A Chinese National working for an American owned construction company is grabbed off the streets of Shanghai in broad daylight. Grace Chu is a forensic accountant hired to follow the money; John Knox is a civilian with unparalleled training in both combat and culture. Grace's top-notch American education and Chinese military service make her an unassuming but effective operative, while Knox's take-no-prisoners attitude brings them perilously close to harm. Who is behind the kidnapping? And more important, can Knox and Grace locate the hostages ahead of the deadline?

It was entertaining and informative about day to day life in China. However, at times I felt like the author was more interested in letting the reader know about China than about the plot and the characters. Oh, and how many times did he have to use the word "waiguoren" ?

picked up this book because I have liked previous books by this author, but this one, set in Shanghai was not up to his previous level of readability.
Too many characters, confusing plot, and Chinese background leads to more unknowns and many security problems. Would not recommend.

This was a fast read...pure summer reading. The plot was clever and engaging.

Great read! This is Ridley Pearson's best since the Lou Boldt series.

I was really disappointed in this book. Pearson is usually a wonderful author, but not this time. I really hope this is not the start of a new series.

A forensic accountant, Grace Chu, and John Knox try to solve the kidnapping of a Chinese national working for an American construction company in Shanghai. Good characters and a convoluted plot. Looks like the beginning of a good series.
