A new chapter begins . . . .

Brooklyn Wainwright is a skilled surgeon. Sure, her patients might smell like mold and have spines made of leather, but no ailing book is going to die on her watch. The same can't be said of Abraham Karastovsky, Brooklyn's friend and former employer.

On the eve of a celebration for his latest book restoration, Brooklyn finds her mentor lying in a pool of his own blood. With his final breath, Abraham leaves Brooklyn a cryptic message, 'Remember the devil,' and smiles as she takes possession of his priceless - and supposedly cursed - copy of Goethe's Faust .

Brooklyn suddenly finds herself accused of murder and theft, thanks to Derek Stone, the humourless - and annoyingly attractive - British security officer who found her kneeling over the body. Now she has to make sense of the clues left behind by her mentor if she hopes to restore justice . . .

Thumbs up for the San Francisco setting and the interesting variety of characters.
Thumbs down for the amateur detective who constantly put herself in danger, beginning with a walk down a long, deserted corridor.

The first book in the Bibliophile Mystery series

When I first started reading this book I wasn't sure if I would like it, but as I continued, I was hooked. I have found a new cozy series to enjoy. Good story, good characters, and I actually had no idea who the murderer was until the very last. I recommend this series.

Hmmm, her main character was a neat young woman, but she certainly did bash herself way too much. I liked the very interesting information on book restoration; i never knew that one could get a degree in it from Harvard. I am impressed. But, I will not be reading any more of this author. She just got hit and abused too many times, several times in one day even. I found that to not be realistic. And, why did she put herself in those positions to be hit when she could have not gone into a particular place? And, the cute guy gets to rescue her? She either needs to figure out how to stay out of trouble or learn to defend herself. He cannot always be in just the pantry closet that she steps into. i found those episodes to be unrealistic.

This is the first of a new series. I enjoyed it and learned what a challenging job being a book restoration person can be. Loved the characters. Can't wait to read #2!
