Haunted Memories is the second in a middle-grade series about Sara, a 12-year-old girl who hears and sees ghosts. Sara has started to make friends after the move with her father, and she doesn’t want to seem anything but normal, so Sara kept keeping her secret from everyone. She has met a new boy, Jayden, who she’s starting to really like. There is a mysterious ghost that always stands around him though, pushing Sara away. I feel much the same about this installment in the Saranormal series as I did about the first one, Ghost Town. It was charming, and just what I was looking for: a fun, exciting, middle-grade book. I liked the scary factor and the building of suspense and drama. I think middle-grade readers (whom this story is intended for) will be on the edge of their seats for much of this story. I loved that the book continued with most of the same list of characters and that I got to know more about them. I also liked the extension of some new friends and Jayden's passionate pursuit for Sara. It has themes of fitting in, friendship, jealousy, and first crushes. An ideal read for middle-grade students who are seeking a fun read with a little bit of creep factor, I would recommend every middle-graders to read this series. I would rate it four out of five.

Sara Collins is nervous about starting Grade 7 in her new school since she has just moved to Stellamar. She also has a secret that she must keep so that she will not be considered strange: she can see the spirits of the dead. Then she discovers that someone has nominated her to be Harvest Queen, a position she does not want. Sara must do what she feels is right to correct an old wrong and set the spirit of a young girl to rest. Reviewed by BPL volunteer EE.
