Kara’s family is going through rough times. Money is tight, bosses are mad, and Kara is having trouble in school. With the disappearance of her Mum fresh in her mind, Kara feels she must find a way to make her proud- even if she’s dead. When the ban on dredging the town’s reef is lifted, Kara thinks that this is her big chance! Her Mum was a biologist after all, and would hate to see the reef destroyed along with thousands of animals! Independent-minded Kara doesn’t want help with saving the animals, but eventually she must find some friends to help her, even in unexpected places.

I really enjoyed this book. Any tween pursing a possible career in marine biology would love One White Dolphin because it offers many valid facts about our world’s coral reefs’ and how we can help save them. I also like that Mr. Lewis wrote about a kid with disabilities who is very capable, intelligent, and kind. One White Dolphin is a perfect read for any tween.

I love this book!!!! It made me cry at parts. And I am sooooooo glad it had a happy ending. The reason I love this book is because it shows how little someone can be but changed everyone's mind about saving the reef.

One White Dolphin is a marvelous book of fiction, where we experience the story of our main lead, Kara Wood, and her love for the aquatic life. Unfortunately, it has come to a time where the fishermen want to dredge the reef in order to sell them for more, and reel in extra profit. Despite knowing Kara would do anything for the ocean, her condition is barely fit enough to help both her family and the ocean —— especially considering their financial struggle and troubles at school. Then to top it all off, the disappearance of her mother is what hit her the most.

It almost feels despairing, until she encounters an albino baby dolphin at the shore of the reef, which only motivates her to try harder, in order to save her town's reef. Overall, the story is very uplifting despite her rough times, and allows us to acknowledge remain hopeful. In addition to that, we learn a few additional facts on what we can do, and how we can save our local waters. All in all, the plot was very well developed, and it is quite possibly one of my favorite books!
