It was hard to get into at first but felt it painted a version of what the Amish face, and found it to be a very good book,I agree that unbaptized Amish should NOT be "shunned" but I also can see the other side , and none can be sure what they would really do unless they, themselves were faced with it.

I'm very disappointed that this author feels the need to conquer, (in the name of love), the religion of Christians who are obviously very dedicated to God & their faith, when there are so many who don't know God at all! The main characters in this story would not be shunned for deciding not to be baptized. Amish youth are allowed freedoms during rumspringa to be certain that they are ready to make the full, lifelong commitment that is required by baptism. It would still be a difficult decision that their families might not understand, but they would be allowed to explain in person, visit, and write letters. Shunning is for people who stray after having been baptized.
