Very charming story about a woman who gets a boa for a gift, and how the snake is a terrific companion, helps the woman at her job, lends a hand with the kids in the community.

Curveball mid-book (spoiler alert): a knife-weilding burglar breaks into the woman's apartment, gags & ties her up but then is attacked / constricted by the boa until a gun-pointing police officer arrives — all these events are shown in the illustrations too. Probably not totally appropriate to have read to my 3-yr-old — oops.
