The series centers on a young orphaned girl in the late 1890's, who, after an abusive childhood spent in orphanages and the homes of strangers, is mistakenly sent to live with an elderly spinster and her aging brother. Over time, thirteen-year-old Anne will transform their lives and eventually the small town in which they live with her unique spirit, fierce intellect and brilliant imagination.

Dear me, another example of producers trying to milk the greatness of Lucy M while thinking their spin to originality is to lace a beloved classic with imposing and forceful SJW themes. Amybeth McNutty performance as Anne was an overbearing, assuming attempt to personify the character. Please stop fiddling with "Anne". Its already been brilliantly done. Everything that came after has always been found wanting. This included.

Really enjoyed this adaptation of the book! It perhaps gives a bit of a darker version of the story-line but this lends a more realistic sense to the world of Avonlea and its charming inhabitants. The actors are all excellent and the scenery so beautiful. Loved the artistic/ and musical lead-in for the series by The Tragically Hip's "Ahead by a Century", couldn't be more Canadian! Well done!

Loved Anne with an "e" in this new version of "Anne of Green Gables". She is spirited and bold yet passionate with an imagination to match. Amybeth McNutty as "Anne" is excellent. Wonderful start to a great series.
