Fair - Cheri (2009) 92 min. Personal bias - I'm not that into historical period pieces especially those that focus on the aristocracy - too snobbish. And my bias holds true for this one. Cheri is about a woman (played by Michelle Pfeiffer) who falls for a much younger man (Cheri played by Rupert Friend). Cheri is then fixed up by his mother (played by Kathy Bates) with someone his own age to Michelle Pfeiffer's obvious discontent. The film is lackluster in comparison to others with whit and satire. But as a soap opera, the film does hold its own. Best scene was Michelle Pfeiffer's character pining for her Cheri. Lastly, though intentional, you'll notice great changes in Pfeiffer's appearance throughout from looking vibrantly young to old. This film should garner a Best Costume nomination at the 2010 Oscars.
