This book is really good. it shows the struggle of life in 1793, just after the Revolutionary War, for Mattie. There is a horrible fever, yellow fever, going through Philadelphia that will end up killing over three thousand individuals. Everything is okay until Mattie's mother, Lucille, comes down with the fever. She sends Mattie and her grandfather into the country away from the fever. On the way there, though, they are thrown to the side of the road, miles away from any civilization. They try to make it back to town, but Mattie comes down with the fever. Will she live? Will her mother live? Will they ever be reunited if they do both live? I leave so many questions unanswered. there is only one way to acquire the answers, to read the book!
