The place where you grew up has a stranglehold on you even if you have been away 38 years. Fr. Tim learns several truths about his father and spends time under his childhood roof after befriending the men who are rehabbing the place. Barbecue, Memphis, cemeteries and Elvis lore are all visited in this book. This book is the first in the Fr. Tim series, according to my book jacket, but I appreciated having already read “At Home in Mitford,” which has the back story of how he met his wife, adopted a son and acquired the dog. The Mitford book is more humorous with the dog and Dooley having more prominent parts. “Home to Holly Springs” seems more preachy than “At Home in Mitford.”
